Do or do not. There is no try.

Because of the invaluable lessons that can be learned from failure, It is better to try and fail than to never try at all.  However, you should never go into an endeavor with a mindset of, “I guess I’ll give it a try.”  The doubt conveyed to yourself in that message will mushroom into an expectancy of failure at the first sign of resistance.  A feeling of absolute faith needs to imbibe every part of your being when you attack an endeavor.

Try* something with me.  Think of something important that you really want or need to do.  Close your eyes and imagine yourself attempting this action with a sense of hope that it will work out.  Now, imagine yourself attacking the same task with a feeling of absolute certainty that the outcome will be the one you desire.  I’m talking about an resolute conviction that there is no possible outcome except the one you have determined will happen.  Do you feel the difference?  Which attitude do you think will carry you through to victory when obstacles rear their ugly heads and the path to victory looks cloudy and difficult?

* Try in this instance refers to this Merriam-Webster definition of try: to put to test or trial, rather than this one: to make an attempt at.

So, like our friends at Nike say, "Just DO it!"

Your Choice By Dr. Chet Zelasko

I’m a Buffalo Bills fan. I never hide it, but sometimes it isn’t easy to own up to, given their record in the past 10 years. But it’s a new season and it’s time to be optimistic. In an interview, Bills coach Chan Gailey was asked about the new rules regarding the number of practices allowed as he prepared the team for the new season. He said, “I don’t like them.” But what he said next was profound:

“You can gripe and complain about what you don’t have, or you can get excited about what you do have. You get to choose every day.”

How many times have you said you’d exercise more if you had the time? How about eating healthier foods if you had the time to cook? Lift weights if you could afford a gym? Think about what you said you would do.

Here’s the thing: it’s your choice how you decide to approach each day. You can complain about what you can’t do, or you can get excited about what you can do. Exchange sleep or TV time for exercise. Use your body weight as resistance until you can afford weights or a gym; that’s what you’re doing when you do push-ups, pull-ups, curl-ups, or leg lifts. Cook meals for the week with the entire family participating—how many of you say you want more family time, and what could be better than helping the kids learn about healthy foods?

Because what the coach said is true. You do get to choose—not only how you think about your current situation but what you’ll do to get healthy and fit. Choose wisely. What are you prepared to do today? ~ Dr. Chet

One Choice

Think about this for a moment...one choice, just one, can change your life forever. Simply put, your life today is what your choices have made it, but with new choices, you can change directions this very moment. For me, that idea alone is highly motivational because it offers tremendous hope, regardless of circumstances, for a better tomorrow.  We have both the ability and responsibility to make better choices today.  Don't say "if I could" say "I will."

Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen received 77 rejections for their idea Chicken Soup for the Soul. They had to make a decision each time...should they throw in the towel and say enough is enough, or should they keep trying to pursue their dreams? You know the rest of the story. The 78th publisher said "Yes" and they went on to sell over 100 million books.
Never forget...you're always One Choice away from changing your life.

Where are your thoughts leading you?

An excerpt from
The Strangest Secret
by Earl Nightingale

George Bernard Shaw said, "People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them."

Well, it's pretty apparent, isn't it? And every person who discovered this believed (for a while) that he was the first one to work it out. We become what we think about.

Now, it stands to reason that a person who is thinking about a concrete and worthwhile goal is going to reach it, because that's what he's thinking about. And we become what we think about.

Conversely, the person who has no goal, who doesn't know where he's going, and whose thoughts must therefore be thoughts of confusion, anxiety, fear and worry - his life becomes one of frustration, fear, anxiety and worry. And if he thinks about nothing...he becomes nothing.

How does it work? Why do we become what we think about? Well, I'll tell you how it works, as far as we know. To do this, I want to tell you about a situation that parallels the human mind.

Suppose a farmer has some land, and it's good, fertile land. The land gives the farmer a choice; he may plant in that land whatever he chooses. The land doesn't care. It's up to the farmer to make a decision.

We're comparing the human mind with the land because the mind, like the land, doesn't care what you plant in it. It will return what you plant, but it doesn't care what you plant.

Now, let's say that the farmer has two seeds in his hand - one is a seed of corn, the other is nightshade, a deadly poison. He digs two little holes in the earth and he plants both seeds - one corn, the other nightshade. He covers up the holes, waters and takes care of the land...and what will happen? Invariably, the land will return what was planted. As it's written in the Bible,

"As ye sow, so shall ye reap."

Remember, the land doesn't care. It will return poison in just as wonderful abundance as it will corn. So up come the plants - one corn, one poison. The human mind is far more fertile, far more incredible and mysterious than the land, but it works the same way. It doesn't care what we plant...success...or failure. A concrete, worthwhile goal...or confusion, misunderstanding, fear, anxiety, and so on. But what we plant it must return to us.

So, as we enjoy this beautiful day God has given us, let us focus our thoughts on things that will add value to ourselves and to others!  Think thoughts of prosperity and blessings.  Remember, each day is a gift from God, what we do with it is our gift back to him! ~ Sue
